Church of Saint Joseph, Middletown NY

Welcome to The Church of St. Joseph!

HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYONE

The Resurrection of Our Lord, Jesus, is the greatest holiday the Church could ever celebrate. It is what we are all about as Christians. We follow Christ and we believe that he is God. Our belief in his divinity comes from his power over death.

We know that the true witnesses of Christ in Jesus' time on earth wouldhave heard his teaching and experienced his works. Certainly, many would agree that the miracles of Jesus offer some proof of his divine nature. Yet so manycould not accept Jesus in his day, because they could not open their hearts and minds to his presence, his works and his teaching.

There were in Jesus' time some healers and wonder workers who seemed to have supernatural knowledge or ability to cure. Jesus proves that he is more than that when he does certain things. When he gives sight to the man born blind, Jesus is acting as God, because only God has the power to create something out of nothing. Only God can make eyes that give sight to man who was born with no eyes and therefore no ability to see. Jesus proves he is greater than the master psysicians of his time because he not only restores Lazerus back to health, he restores him back to life after he has been in the tomb fordays. Only God can give, the precious gift of life.

Those who cannot accept Jesus in his day are outraged at these miracles. They even plot to kill Lazarus. They succeed in having Jesus killed, although this is part of God's plan, God's will for the salvation of the world.

Jesus' greatest miracle, is that he came back to life. It means that Jesus wins over darkness, Jesus came back to renew our relations with God, sothat by the blood of his cross we are saved. By his resurrection we arepromised eternal life.

We join Christians throughout history, in holding on to the hope the Jesus gives us by his resurrection. In his resurrection, he promises uss omething better than this life can offer.

As we begin this Easter season, let us open our hearts to accept Christ. Let's stop worrying about every little detail in our small world and put Christ first Ð why? Jesus in his resurrection calls us to do so. He gives us the strength, the grace and the hope.

May this Easter bring special blessings of renewed faith to all of youand your families. May the Risen Lord be with you!
